La Casa

Organization: Friendship Place

La Casa is a 40-unit Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) building for previously chronically homeless males located in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC. The program’s highly vulnerable residents receive comprehensive on-site case management, supportive services, and 24 hour staffing. Services at La Casa are tailored to the unique needs of each participant.

La Casa’s approach is based on the principles of Housing First, an evidence-based housing model that considers housing the first priority—especially for those who are also facing other barriers. This model emphasizes stabilizing housing immediately, so that other needs can be successfully met.

Friendship Place case managers at La Casa meet regularly with residents to assess their needs. Individuals in the program have an active voice in their individualized service plans. We empower participants to connect with their needs, while supporting and guiding them through the process of rebuilding their lives.

La Casa is locally funded by the District of Columbia’s Department of Human Services and operated by Friendship Place. The 40-individual unit complex currently operates at 100 percent capacity, housing 40 individuals.
