Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP)
NLSP provides services for tenants all across DC. NLSP will consider handling the following types of housing problems for persons who meet our income guidelines:
SERVICES FOR TENANTS
Termination of a housing subsidy or voucher
Eviction defense
- Assistance for tenants facing wrongful eviction
- Including if the house is in foreclosure, being sold by the owner, or sold at a tax sale
Poor housing conditions, including but not limited to:
- lack of heat, air conditioning, water or electricity
- bad plumbing
- rodents, roaches, bugs or other infestations
Requests for transfer vouchers, including for reasonable accommodations for disabilities
Failure to return a security deposit
Incorrect rent or utility allowance calculations
Wrongful utility disconnects
Tenant groups that seek to correct problems affecting many residents including:
- Violations of the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act
- Poor conditions
- Threatened destruction or sale of a multi-family property
- Relocation of residents because of changes to apartments
Please call us if you have a problem with conditions in your housing or if you are afraid you may lose your housing for any reason. If we cannot assist you, we will help find an organization that can.
