Supported Employment for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Organization: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington

We provide support and guidance for young adults and adults with developmental disabilities who have little to no work history entering the workforce. Through adaptive programming, a dedicated staff, open partnerships with businesses, families and community members, we find new opportunities for our consumers to grow, share and develop as independent adults. We also work closely with families with teenage children, helping consumers access career-track training and employment in high-growth fields.

Intake: All program participants living in the District must be referred by the DC Office of Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). In Maryland, referrals may come from the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) or the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA).

Employment: Our Employment Specialists work one-on-one with adults with a developmental disability to help identify their strengths and interests, develop the needed skills, help place them in a good work environment and provide ongoing support to ensure success. If an employment situation is deemed a bad fit, we work to find a better solution for the consumer.

Education: Our program also features an adult education component following the PLATO. Classes are offered in the morning and evening. Referrals to the education component come through DC Employment Services.
