Many Vietnamese families across the United States face disadvantages because of their lack of fluency in English and unfamiliarity with the school system. Many Vietnamese students do not have the tools and parental support needed to achieve consistent academic success, navigate the educational system, and plan for the future.
Through the Asian Youth Empowerment programs, young adults and mentors work to help students succeed in both life and school. We have developed multi-pronged approaches to addressing the specific barriers that make it difficult for Vietnamese students in the U.S. to succeed academically. Participating Vietnamese students have been empowered to live healthier lives, equipped with additional socialization skills to better engage with their peers, and increase their academic success.
