The NEW BEGINNING TEMPORARY FAMILY SHELTER provides emergency apartment-style housing and comprehensive supportive services, annually, to over 200 homeless children and their families in the heart of DC’s Columbia Heights neighborhood. Services include intensive case management and employment support, counseling, parent education, life skills and ABE/GED instruction, housing searches, and employment. Families stabilize, gain self-sufficiency, and obtain stable, permanent housing in the community.
The New Beginning Temporary Family Shelter program has over 25 dedicated volunteers who provide tutoring, throw birthday parties, host holiday parties, and sponsor trips and other recreational activities.
